Solar Eclipse

Solar eclipse is a phenomenon which occurs, when Moon comes in between Sun and The Earth. At least 2-5 eclipses occur in a year. Today i.e. on 1st August, 2008 we will be witnessing a total eclipse. It is a stunning phenomenon in which Sun rays are blocked from reaching the Earth in the middle of the day. In ancient times people used to think that it happens because of Satan and use to pray to God to save them from evils forces. They were not aware that it’s basically an astronomical phenomenon. Even in some parts of the world people still practice certain rituals to please God and save themselves of evil affects. Actually all this superstition started because during an eclipse harmful rays from Sun reaches the Earth .These harmful rays destroys the retina and cause complete blindness. In older times people did not have any knowledge about this phenomenon. The sight of a full eclipse is beautiful and sometimes people travel to distinct places to witness it, with their safety glasses on.
